Questions about your own life can lead to questions that science can study.
Micropsychology begins by asking what a complex behavior is made of, and for a general reader this can change how familiar questions are asked. Instead of asking only what from childhood still affects me, we can ask which early experiences changed adaptive systems in ways that persist. Instead of asking only why I react so strongly, we can ask how earlier learning alters present appraisal.
The same approach applies to behavior and emotion. Similar outward behavior may mean different things if different functional components are active, and an emotion may carry information about the status of an adaptive system. A large behavioral label may describe what we see, but smaller components may help explain how it came to be.
