HSR: Testing and Deepening the Model

Questions that could make the HSR model more precise.

This page is for researchers who may want to test, refine, or extend the assumptions and predictions of the HSR model without treating the model as already established. One group of questions concerns auditory development: how early sex-related voice information becomes usable and which features of voice matter most. A second concerns visual learning: how children connect voice with appearance, movement, clothing, social roles, and other cues.

Other questions concern the later reorganization of the system. Puberty may change how sex-related information is used by motivational and emotional systems. Genetic studies may also help identify processes that regulate auditory sex-recognition pathways and their development. Together, these questions could make the model more precise and more testable.
